I get the class thing with hipsters. Honestly. I grew up in used and donated clothes only to hit my twenties and discover middle-class hipsters plundering the shelves of Value Village, unconcerned that their throw-away one-season find might be someone else's job interview blouse for eight months straight. It's only cool to shop used when you can afford not to. But what do they know? If I had a nickel for every hipster with a $50 cellphone data plan who self-identified as "broke" and "poor" I could pay off my debts three times over. They remind me of the white middle-class activist community preaching the glorious anti-consumerism of dumpster-diving, self-congratulatory stealing from folks far needier than them who dive to survive, not as a political exercise. It drives me fucking nuts. But the appropriation of suffering has been perpetuated since time immemorial; it's not the hipsters, it's not the emos, it's not the wiggers. They're good kids, just a bit stupid, and while they're certainly not my cup of tea, I try to keep the flesh-eating disdain to a minimum. I'm someone's privileged dolt too.I try to hate the game, not the players.

As to academic language and discourse, it's not my thing. I want to communicate from lived experiences up, not from textbook theory down. It's easier on my brain, and my politics.
