Relying on aerospace and software is not a good way to have a decent economy at this particular time. Seattle’s always been a boom/bust kind of city, but this is definitely the worst bust I have had the pleasure of witnessing. Apparently the Boeing bust of the early 70s was worse though.

it wasn’t a windfall at four hours every two weeks, rated at $38.50 an hour. my total W-2 earnings, if the calendar year ended after next week, would come to about $680 for 2003.
