Jenna Morrison update

RIDE OCCUPY SURVIVE buttons for the ghost ride

I just returned from viewing the proofs for the RIDE OCCUPY SURVIVE buttons. They look great. The quality is pretty durable (they’re being made by the same folks who produced the Save Jarvis, Pinko, and TTC station buttons for Spacing) (see pics of the button proof they made after the fold below).

The RIDE OCCUPY SURVIVE buttons are not being sold, but donation jars in lieu of this are provided. Proceeds are being directed to the TD trust fund announced by the family yesterday in Jenna’s name.

I will have the buttons (for roughly one week or until they run out) at the locations listed below. If anyone wants to match the amount the Toronto cycling community raises, by all means, please do.

RIDE OCCUPY SURVIVE buttons will be available at the Ghost Ride slated for Monday, November 14th, 7:30a. Cyclists are meeting at the usual Critical Mass spot (Bloor and Spadina), and the ride will end at 8a at Dundas West and Sterling, at the site where Jenna was killed.

Starting from Saturday, the following places will have these buttons at their cash counters (others to be added soon):

  • UofT Bikechain
  • Urbane Cyclist (Queen West & John)
  • Curbside Cycle (Bloor West & Brunswick)
  • Bike Joint (Harbord) (not yet; closed early during first distribution)
  • Sweet Pete’s (Bloor West)
  • Broadway Cycle (Bloor West)
  • Dave…Fix My Bike (Christie near Dupont)

STILL NEEDED: please contact me if you’d like to help volunteer to cover other bike stores in the following three areas (I do have a volunteer for the Danforth topside east of the Don; buttons there will be available from Sunday):

  • Kensington Market and College
  • Queen West
  • The Junction
  • Queen East

Thanks everyone. The RIDE OCCUPY SURVIVE buttons are a daily reminder that as a commuting cyclist in Toronto, YOU OWN YOUR SPACE. In addition, the buttons will assure that Jenna’s name is not going to be forgotten by any of us.
