The Kodachrome Toronto Registry is dedicated to Dr. Gunter Gad, Professor Emeritus for the Department of Geography at the University of Toronto.

In addition to his work in the urban, social, and industrial-economic histories of Toronto, Professor Gad was a prolific photographer and documentarian of Toronto’s architecture, urban form, and street scenes — predominantly between 1968 and the 2000s. Each year, Gad presented his slides of Toronto during undergraduate lectures for Historical Toronto (known at the UofT as GGR366H1).

Gad’s preferred photographic medium was Kodachrome. He used a Kodak Ektagraphic Carousel projector in the one lecture room at Sidney Smith Hall which was still equipped with a slide projector.
