it’s in the air.
so.
tiff_seattle mentioned that she’s on the active pursuit of a permanent paying gig. and evidently, agencies and employers aren’t being all that receptive down in the fallow market of san francisco.
it must be something in the air, cos i’m right there with her these days up here in rain country: strapped for cash, scared out of my wits and wondering if i’ve somehow been blacklisted for life for being, ummm, assertive in those thngs that counted most.
despite still being registered with my contracting agency for over three years, i’d hardly know it these days. in 2002, according to the W-2 I received from them today, I made $804, down from nearly $20,000 in 2001 and about the same in 2000. whee. let’s not get into how much i had to rely upon re-employment insurance last year: incidentally, they didn’t do withholding, which is making me very cranky and nervous for my upcoming birthday.
on the brighter side (and connecting this with tiff_seattle‘s posting) … i applied with a local audiophile-friendly retailer today that placed an ad for a graphic artist opening in the newspaper classifieds.
which means that 461 people sent a resume for the opening. i’m number 218.
given, however, that my dad turned me into an audiophile at the ripe old age of five, securing this job as mine would be aces. no, make that super-aces.
seeing that it’s a beautiful moulding of my passion as a sound engineer and disc maven and my profession as an art director, i don’t know how this could be a bad thing.
and someday in 2034, if i’m making enough cheddar (provided i got the job), i could buy that dream McIntosh vacuum tube amplifier (mmmm, indi-glo galore!) and FM tuner, along with that Sony ES compact disc player and home MiniDisc deck that I’ve wanted ever since I was seventeen.
all on employee discount, baybee. beat that for hand-made, high-end, space-age-bachelor-pad quality!
sure, it’s pipe-dream central. but if they’re looking for a damn good graphic artist, how could it be a bad thing for the winning candidate to possess a lifetime background of knowledge for the products and image they’re selling?
anyhow, more job searching tomorrow, along with some t-shirt designing for sursum in minneapolis. i just hope that ryan and eric sent some payment with their parcel this week, or else i am thirteen steps beyond fux0red with my storage space back in the old city.
it’s more than enough to promote a gastric ulcer.
