slumming on a sunday afternoon.

this is why i do not own a telly. V turned on the DishTV and initially tuned to Zee TV, one of the several satellite Hindi networks. She got bored and turned it to VH-1 Classic and VH-1 Soul.

Bad mistake. Midnight Oil’s “Blue Sky Mine” was on, and well, I ended up extolling the virtues of 80s videos to 15 year-old Jig, who lived in India until this skool year. She asked if Aerosmith were gay. I had to explain that, no, they very much like women. A litte later, Erasure’s “A Little Respect” came on, and (you just know where this is going) I had to explain that hair length on boys are not a barometer for sexuality.

I know her mind was overwhelmed, between the “ABBA AREN’T GAY, BUT GAY PEOPLE LIKE ‘DANCING QUEEN’?” and the horrifying revelation that 80s fashion is making a comeback. “I DON’T WANT TO LOOK LIKE THAT!”

Jig is so cute, isn’t she?
