  It wasn’t intended to become such the practical joke, eh. But when several of you guys got all uppity about what I wrote, then I knew I was onto something. And coming from someone who completely fails at every past attempt to spring a practical joke on others (so bad that I don’t even try to do anything for April Fool’s Day), I’d say I must have done something right here.
  Furthermore, I’ll just add to this screened comment that for any U.S. expat who ultimately moves to Canada within their lifetime, I’ll know that I’ve done more than a fair share of trying to clarify and affirm the integrity of the democratic and constitutional process within the U.S. — more so than those who might try to allege they at least tried while they were still living in the U.S., nu? I’ve taken my licks. that’s all I’ve got to say.

An old teacher of mine was fond of the saying “Those who do not read have absolutely no advantage over those who can not read.”
Out of all the time that I’ve known you, the above statement is the first thing you’ve ever said that’s truly horrified me. If you sit idly back and let only the voices of the conservative right be representative of what’s heard today, then you are effectively snubbing all those who fight for justice, equality, and an unbiased civil system in this country. What are we supposed to do, say “No, no… *really*, there are more people that feel this way. I know there’s no evidence of it, but *believe* us.”?
Whatever other challenges you find with the day, I hope you’ve considered these things through.

  Yes, it wasn’t intended to make you personally the arse-end of the joke. And I’m perhaps the most ineffective practical joker you’ll ever meet, but evidently, I did something correctly with this one, however unintentional it might have started out to be.
  And while this isn’t directed at anyone in particular, I will say that this entry provided me with a clearer idea of who exactly hasn’t been keeping up with me lately. Not that anyone is obligated to keep up in the slightest, nor should this coerce anyone to suddenly begin.
  But seriously. You should knoww me better than that by now. Amongst my peers, I’ve done more (not out of personal choice, motivation or conviction) for clarifying the value of democracy in the U.S., whether I like it or not. I don’t, but I can’t really have a say in that matter, now can I? Still, the point is simple: if it doubt, it’s best to refrain from firing a knee-jerk response until you know what’s really going on with me. And if in doubt? Then ask me privately. I’ll always provide a direct, honest and forward reply. :)

  I want you to know that there is no need for you to defend yourself. I don’t expect people to read what I write in real time. But if you find yourself scratching your head and wondering, “What is she up to anyway? That doesn’t sound like something she’d do,” then it never hurts to look back a few days or simply drop a one-line email to me, saying, “You, what’s up? You feelin’ alright out there, or has the mold spore gone to your brain?”
  And despite irritating people, this event certainly qualifies as an effective practical joke. Not that I plan to do another one anytime soon, but I learned something out of this, too. :)
  I do hope you are able to forgive me. And if not, then there isn’t much I can do or say to sway you otherwise.

  I’m amazed by how riled people got here. Considering how terrible I am with conducting practical jokes (I’m so piss-poor at it that I don’t even bother trying on April Fool’s Day), this one seemed to grab a few people in its wake. Thanks for holding in there long enough to see where I was taking this. :)
  (Also, if I had been eligible to do so, then I would have voted this summer, back on the 28th June, for Olivia Chow, provided that I was residing in her riding. It wouldn’t have been enough, granted, but my heart would have been in precisely the right place. Besides, a wife-husband duo representing Toronto would have been truly interesting.)

i must admit i almost lost it but then i paid attention to the way you phrased it and i knew there was something fishy there. very clever practical joke.
(olivia chow and jack layton are far from perfect but they manage to capture more of what i think politics should be about than the average politican does in canada. the NDP party are the only party that is willing to vocally endorse one party over the other. each other party, even the conservatives, will not say one way or the other. i think the conservatives are hoping for the republicans and martin’s camp are just a bunch of opportunistic chameleon asshats who will use either party to their advantage and manipulate them accordingly).

  Martin’s camp naturally will do whatever it takes to stay in control of Parliament. I think the spectre of another Mulroney (or Harris-styled) government is the strongest weapon they wield when scaring people to the polls. Still, it’s highly disappointing to know that the Liberals aren’t publicly batting one way or the other for the outcome in the elections due south of Ottawa.
  That said, I think you might appreciate this photo, taken just yesterday. :)
  And yeah, Layton and Chow aren’t perfect by any stretch, but again, it’s more a matter of “who’s more likely to best represent their constituency?” than it is a matter of “who’s going to be the perfect MP for this riding?” To this day, no candidate running for any seat anywhere has perfectly met my standards for what I’d like to have representing me. But this doesn’t mean I should just throw up my hands in exacerbation and not bother with the process.
  (And thank you for praising the execution of this practical joke. I guess this proves that I can pull one off affter all.)
