it bears repeating.
i know it’s been addressed up lately with a couple of people in particular, but i need to get this out publicly — as the CBC’s “As It Happens” would say — for the record:
Toy Matinée’s 1990 song, “Remember My Name”, from their debut album, is arguably one of the most perfect pop songs I’ve ever heard.
it’s right alongside in calibre to Nick Lowe’s “Cruel To Be Kind”, Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”, Bruce Cockburn’s “Lovers in a Dangerous Time”, Kirsty MacColl’s “They Don’t Know”, The Lilac Time’s “American Eyes”, along with a few select others that come to mind.
i can’t recall just how many times i’ve played this song since June 1990, but i suspect that it’s up in the 400 range. it never wears out.
now it’s your turn.
