CANX
“CANX” began 26 November 2012, when then-Mayor Rob Ford was found guilty in court on charges of ethics violations. “CANX” came from a tweet by Toronto Star reporter David Rider (@dmrider), posted moments before the court ruling was made public. Rider mimicked a leaked, but fabricated tweet from the Mayor’s office, which was putatively retracted moments after it was faux-retweeted:
“@dmrider BREAKINGEST: @TOMayorFord guilty of breaching conflict of interest law, canx remain mayor of Toronto, judge rules.”
