Product Description
“Please Drive Slowly” (with Happy Turtle). A vintage Toronto street sign.
Variety of shirts and hoodies available in many colours. Sold through RedBubble.
A Toronto sign posted on selected streets designated as “traffic calming” areas.
Transportation engineers and urban planners use many methods for traffic calming. Signs like this are used as one passive method to prompt motor vehicle drivers to slow down on signed routes.
The origin for “Please Drive Slowly” (which also shows a friendly turtle), is not entirely known. It likely appeared in the Metropolitan Municipality of Toronto before amalgamation, possibly during the early 1990s.
After 1998, the City of Toronto continued to use a simplified version of the sign. It has reduced detail in the turtle’s shell and its eye.
